On November 28th, the 2020 Creative December Holt Prize (campus finals) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) was brought to you by CIDE and COCOROBO and featured the theme workshop "Gather Up! Dream Team of the Treasure Raiders” and invited everyone to experience interface of technology and creativity.

1 Workshop: Make a power car controlled by Bluetooth Controller

 

In the morning, under the leadership of the instructor, the trainees started with fun and interesting mechanical power principles, combined with electronic modules and simple graphical programming, to create a self-made power car controlled by a Bluetooth controller.

2 Remotely Controlled Car Race

 

The exciting game began in the afternoon!

 

The competition is a time race, divided into group stages, semi-finals and finals. Each team selects a player to use the Bluetooth handle to remotely control the car on the designated track. The team that takes the least time wins. Each team draws numbers to determine the order of the next game. After the first round, the three teams with the least time will perform a second draw to determine the order of appearance.

 

During the entire race, the car must not go over the edge of the white track. Once one-third of the wheel deviates from the white track, the team must start again from the starting point.

 

After two hours of skill training, the trainees competed in groups and finally had the champion, runner-up and runner-up of this remote control timed car race.

3 End Marks

 

The workshop ended in a pleasant award ceremony. So far, all the workshops of the 2020 Creative December Holt Prize for the campus finals at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) have also come to an end. Looking forward to your wonderful performance in the finals!

4 Feedback

 

The activity of making a Bluetooth car starts with a bunch of parts, assembles the external body, puts two small motors in, and a few boards that I don’t understand, plugs in the cable and the power bank, and then assembles the remote controller in a similar way. Finally, I used the programming on the computer to connect the car and the remote control handle via Bluetooth, and then you can play. We divided into groups to race on three laps of the track to find the winner. It's been a long time since I assembled any toys. This time it was quite fun. Unfortunately, I have never learned about electronic stuff before, and I don't know much about those wirings. But in the end, I was very happy when I controlled the car to run back and forth.

I am very grateful to the teachers and students who organized and participated in this activity. This is a very interesting activity. In the process of making the remote control car, I babbled about the aerodynamics for a long time, and then cooperated with my teammates to adjust the parameters of the tiny car. In the end, we won the third place in the competition. Hope there will be more similar activities in the future.
